Maybe it’s because I was born and raised in Rome, surrounded by ancient architecture, but I have always been fascinated with ancient structures, and I find a strange solace in visiting ruins, particularly those being overtaken by forests.
Seeing these once marvelous structures, symbols of human power and resilience, being abandoned and slowly destroyed by nature is paradoxically reassuring. Kind of humbling, no matter how powerful we are, everything we make eventually gets destroyed and outlived by nature. (Well, except plastic. Maybe we should be making our buildings out of that?)
